The Oxford Police Department is notifying the citizen and requesting citizen to be vigilant during the next few weeks. We are asking for citizen to please contact Granville County 911 if they observe suspicious activity in their neighborhoods and allow the Police Department to further investigate. We are further requesting citizen to contact Lieutenant Curl at the Oxford Police Department (919-693-3161) or Granville County Crime Stoppers (919-693-3100) with information on these crimes.
2. On February 2, 2016 the Oxford Police Department attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the residential area of Green Acres. The vehicle refused to stop and continued into the Granville Street area. The vehicle went through several yards causing property damage in this area. Eventually the vehicle headed out of the city limits on Martin Luther King Ave. Oxford Officers remained behind the vehicle keeping same in sight until the vehicle stopped at Wilton Elementary School. The Granville County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist Oxford Officers. The driver, Thurston Darius Bobbitt, DOB 9/29/1982 was arrested and charged with the following: felony flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, four counts of injury to real property, and failure to stop for a stop sign/flash red light. Bobbitt was placed in the Granville County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond with a court date of February 10, 2016.
